Did you know…. that the City Park of Porto is the only one in all Europe with an ocean front? Well, now you know and City Lovers Tours can take you there in the most charming way!
Porto City Park, with 83 hectares of pure peace and nature, it’s the biggest in all Europe: that’s right! – and its premium location – right by the sea – makes it even more desirable to visit! It was designed by the landscape architect Sidónio Pais and was totally finished in 2002, but 2 years before it was already selected by the National Board of Engineers as one of the most remarkable constructions of the 20th century in Portugal.
Enjoy the 10 km of paths used by locals for cycling, jogging or simply having family walks, passing by the lovely lake or feeding the ducks.
Why should you visit it?
– You can find there the Water Pavilion: this famous building was featured in Expo 98 in Lisbon, and when the exhibition ended, it was relocated to the city park of Porto. It’s very interesting to visit and its architecture is worth seeing because it was designed to give the illusion that it’s floating in the air. Don´t miss it wheather you’re visiting for leisure or scientific purposes!
– Also in the city park, there’s the Environmental Education Centre, where several initiatives regarding environmental awareness take place, and where a wide diversity of agriculture elements are planted, it’s super interesting.
– If you’re spending some time there, but didn’t come ready for a picnic, don’t worry! There are a few places to grab a bite, like Soundwich, a lovely place to have a light meal while enjoying nature.
The park has a free entrance, opens at 08:00h and closes at 22:00h or at midnight from the 1st of April to the 30th of September, which means it’s always a good idea to fit it in your schedule!
With City Lovers Tours, you can book a great sightseeing tour in an amazing VW from the 70’s, that shows you all that part of the city, including the city park area and all the main ocean side avenue, with its great beaches and restaurants.
You don’t want to miss it for sure!
